Clean-Sanitary facilities with indoor/outdoor runs, heat and air-conditioning, soft music and access to fresh spring water at all times. Being a small kennel, each dog gets plenty of love, attention, and handling. The dogs have lots of human company and are checked on often. We welcome your inspection (Currently not providing indoor tours due to Covid and the amount of stress the dogs undergo when strangers are in the kennel, we are working on a video tour as an alternative). We work hard to make your dogs' visits here enjoyable with those extra comforts not ordinarily found in boarding kennels. To ensure your dog is able to receive the level of care we want to provide, we do require Trial Days for most new client dogs (Daily Rates apply).
We now offer training while your dog stays with us. Training provides great mental stimulation and builds a bond to make your dog’s stay with us more enjoyable. You can select up to two 15- minute sessions per day for one of our certified trainers to work one on one with your dog on basic obedience cues. We use positive reinforcement to introduce the cues and send you home with instructions on how to continue working with them at home. Private, in-home sessions will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Check with the kennel for availability.

having fun! This is why we designed our mountainside play yard. Shady, natural and safely fenced.
The daily freedom to run releases any tension created by boarding and makes for a very enjoyable stay.
We encourage you to bring your dog's bones, treats, toys, medicines, etc., for making him feel at home away from home. We require you to bring your dogs regular diet, this can be in a bin, or large resealable bag, or individual meal baggies. We will administer oral medicines and also administer Insulin injections to our diabetic guests. We are not responsible for lost or chewed items.
All new clients must bring veterinarian health records upon their first stay here. All dogs must
be up-to-date on the following vaccines: Distemper, Parvovirus, Bordatella and Rabies. No Exceptions!
Kennel cough vaccines and Heartworm Preventative are required. Please seek your veterinarian’s advise
on this. Please keep in mind that “Kennel Cough” protection is provided by Bordatella vaccine, there are many strains and the vaccines are not effective against all of them (similar to the flu shot for people).Sadly, most of the dogs that may get “kennel cough” at Country Air are our new clients dogs….not a wonderful first impression, but it happens-just like the new kid at daycare who gets sick. Our “regulars” rarely get sick as their immune systems have adjusted. To make matters more difficult, a dog is the most contagious prior to showing any symptoms.
The name of your dog’s vet is kept on record. In case of illness every effort will be made to contract
him/her. If not available, our regular vet will be contacted. You will be billed upon your return.
We offer grooming, always done according to the owner's instructions. Your dog will be handled
in a gentle manner and groomed with a personal touch. We are available for grooming and bathing by appointment for dogs that are not current guests at the kennel, when scheduling allows.
Many people have their dogs bathed at the end of a stay here so that he/she is extra fresh and clean
upon returning home. When done with a gentle, caring approach, and on a regular basis, most dogs enjoy
being bathed.
Dogs are bathed in professional grooming products, but are safe to us, your dog and the
environment.

An introduction to the new owner of Country Air Vacation Kennels: Ann-Marie Transue grew up in Pennsylvania and Charlottesville, Va. but has called the Roanoke area home after graduating from Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management. After doing her time in corporate America, Ann-Marie made the decision to return to her love of animals as a career and went back to school to become a professional dog trainer. She has been a supervisor in a local dog daycare, taught many hours of training classes for pets and their caretakers, and has provided boarding for her clients for the past several years. She took additional training and went through an apprenticeship to become a certified dog groomer as well.
Ann-Marie is active in the local dog rescue world as a foster and has especially enjoyed teaching a Train to Adopt class for shelter dogs to help them learn the skills they need to be adopted into a loving family. Her life has fully "gone to the dogs" since leaving her office job and she loves it!
We value the trust you have placed in us to care for your VIP, therefore we provide an onsite manager. The onsite manager is there in case of any unforeseen emergencies, bad weather and your peace of mind.
